Honorable Teana V. Watson
The Honorable Teana Watson was elected judge in 2018 and is currently serving her third term as Judge of County Court at Law #5. She presides over misdemeanor, juvenile, civil, probate, and mental health matters. Judge Watson brings to the bench a wealth of legal experience, having served as former Chief Juvenile Prosecutor for Fort Bend County, a former Municipal Judge for the City of Stafford, and an Assistant District Attorney for Fort Bend County. Additionally, she was the principal attorney of TV Watson Law PLLC, a full service law firm that handled civil, criminal, state, and federal matters. Judge Watson is the former Administrative Judge for the County Courts at Law who assisted in the historic expansion of the County’s First Magistrate Court.
In addition to her regular court dockets, Judge Watson presides over two Specialty Courts. The Misdemeanor Treatment Court Program and the Juvenile F.I.R.S.T Court Program. The Misdemeanor Treatment Court Program is a specialty court that has allowed hundreds of misdemeanor drug participants an opportunity to obtain inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. The primary goal of the program is to reduce drug use and recidivism in our community. Successful participants in this very intensive program may obtain a dismissal of the charges filed and an opportunity for a free expunction.
The Juvenile F.I.R.S.T Court Program addresses youth who struggle with conflict and aggression within the home. The program is uniquely designed to include therapeutic concepts to enhance better communication between parent and youth with increased focus on accountability. The Program is one of only Four other court programs in the State of Texas that Texas CASA has adopted as a pilot project to work with juveniles.
Judge Watson is the former Chair of the Fort Bend County Juvenile Board. During her tenure, the juvenile probation department expanded their vocational and educational opportunities for juveniles. She currently serves as one of two Texas juvenile judges on the Texas Juvenile Justice Department’s Advisory Council on Juvenile Services.
Judge Watson is a member of the International Association of Women Judges and National Association of Women Judges. She has lectured and presented papers for the State Bar of Texas, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Texas Juvenile Justice Association of Texas, as well as other legal education organizations and community groups. She is a native Houstonian, graduate of HISD’s Vanguard Program, graduate of Fisk University (B.A.), and Syracuse College of Law (J.D.). Judge Watson has resided in the Fort Bend County community for over 30 years.
